Description
Waterford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 is a structured Stellenbosch red shaped by the gravel-rich soils and cooling maritime influence of the Helderberg. The wine combines concentrated dark fruit with fresh acidity and firm, polished tannins, giving it both immediate presence and the structure needed for long-term development.
The nose opens with blackcurrant, wild fynbos, and a subtle mineral note that reflects its Helderberg origins. On the palate, ripe dark fruit is lifted by vibrant acidity, while fine tannins provide grip and definition. The finish remains firm, fresh, and persistent, with the fruit and savory detail carrying through cleanly. It would pair especially well with grilled steak, roast lamb, venison, or slow-cooked beef.
This is a cellar-worthy Cabernet Sauvignon with the balance and structure to continue developing gracefully over the next decade.

In the cellar
The grapes were hand-harvested from north-facing Helderberg vineyards planted in gravel-rich, loamy soils and cooled by ocean breezes. Individual Cabernet Sauvignon clones, planted between 1999 and 2002, contribute additional depth and complexity. The fruit was fermented as whole berries for 18 days to preserve purity and structure. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matured in selected French oak barrels.
