Description
La Petite Ferme Variation Red Blend 2021 is a fragrant, approachable Franschhoek red built around floral aromatics, savory spice, and supple texture. Shiraz, Grenache, and Mourvèdre each bring a distinct element to the wine, creating a style that favors freshness and balance over heaviness.
The nose opens with violets, rose petals, and other purple floral notes, followed by subtle spice and savory tones from the Mourvèdre. On the palate, gentle oak adds depth without overwhelming the fruit, while fine tannins create a soft, smooth texture and an easy-drinking finish. It would pair particularly well with roast lamb, grilled meats, Mediterranean-inspired dishes, or herb-roasted vegetables.
Designed to be enjoyed relatively young, this is an expressive red blend with enough structure and savory character to remain interesting while retaining its approachable style.

In the cellar
The Shiraz component was fermented and matured for 10 months in French oak, with 10% new barrels and the balance in older oak. The Grenache underwent 10% whole-bunch fermentation and was matured in a combination of stainless steel tanks and older French oak barrels to preserve its fruit character.

About the Winery
Situated on the side of the majestic Middagkrans Mountains of the magnificent Franschhoek Valley, the west-facing La Petite Ferme is one of the more intimate wineries in the Cape Winelands. More than 300 years ago, when the Huguenots arrived, they brought with them their age-old French wine and food culture (Many of them were given land by the Dutch government in a valley called Oliphantshoek - Elephant Corner - so named because of the vast herds of elephants that roamed the area).
Soon after they settled here, it became known as Franschhoek (French Corner). Most of the wineries in Franschhoek still have their original French names and the homesteads are all Cape Dutch with gorgeous Oaks and luscious vineyards. These amazing vineyards that cover these mountain slopes boast a valley rich in history and are centered on a picturesque village of warm and friendly people.
