Description
La Motte Collector’s Edition Cabernet Franc 2024 is a limited-release Stellenbosch red selected for bottling on its own after showing exceptional character during the vintage. Originally intended as a blending component, its concentration, varietal definition, and structure earned it a standalone release, with only 2,400 bottles produced.
The nose opens with blackberry and ripe plum, layered with green olive, violet, nutmeg, and a cool hint of mint. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, with juicy dark fruit framed by firm, finely structured tannins. Extended skin contact builds depth and definition, while restrained French oak adds polish without masking the Cabernet Franc character. The finish is long and persistent. It would pair especially well with roast lamb, venison, grilled beef, or mushroom-based dishes.
Powerful but balanced, this is a Cabernet Franc with the concentration and tannin structure to reward extended cellaring.

In the cellar
The grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed, and transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Fermentation was managed with twice-daily pump-overs to extract color, flavor, and tannin gradually. The wine remained on the skins for four weeks before pressing, adding further concentration and structural depth. It then matured for 18 months in second-fill 300L French oak barrels, allowing the oak to frame the fruit without dominating it. Production was limited to 2,400 bottles.

About the Winery
Situated in the beautiful Franschhoek Valley in South Africa’s Cape winelands, La Motte is home to the finest wines, recognized internationally for exceptional quality. With its picturesque setting, traditional cuisine and historic charm, La Motte is an enchanting choice for those who appreciate the finer things in life.
La Motte was acquired in 1970 by the late Dr. Anton Rupert, an internationally respected industrialist who established a global business empire and was held in high regard as a committed conservationist. Dr. Rupert and his art-devoted wife, Hubert, also played an immense role in the preservation of art. As much as there has been a dedication to producing top quality wine at La Motte since its acquisition by Dr. Rupert in 1970, the estate has also shown a distinct responsibility towards uplifting and empowering its people.
Environmental management is a high priority at La Motte and is factored into the long-term strategy as well as daily running of the estate. Examples of environmental care include the protection of precious natural flora known as ‘fynbos’ on the adjoining Wemmershoek mountains and adherence to biologic principles in the production of grapes, flowers and ethereal oils. La Motte was one of the first wine estates to be awarded the coveted ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification.
