Description
L'Ormarins Blanc de Blancs 2022 is a vintage Cap Classique made entirely from Chardonnay, combining vibrant citrus freshness with the richness and texture developed through extended bottle maturation. Four years on the lees bring a distinctly savory character to the wine, while the absence of malolactic fermentation preserves its natural acidity and mineral precision. The result is a sparkling wine with both immediate energy and the structure for further development.
The nose opens with nectarine, citrus leaf, and freshly baked sourdough, followed by subtle notes of kelp and sea spray. On the palate, lemon, grapefruit, and orange zest bring a lively citrus character, supported by crisp acidity and a mineral edge reminiscent of oyster shell and flint. As the wine opens, richer notes of brioche and yeast emerge, adding texture and complexity through a long, refreshing finish. It would pair especially well with fresh oysters, grilled prawns, seared scallops, sushi, or delicate seafood dishes.
This is a structured, Chardonnay-driven Cap Classique that offers plenty of freshness now, with the concentration and lees-derived complexity to develop further in bottle over the next several years.

In the cellar
The Chardonnay grapes were hand-harvested during the cool early morning hours and whole-bunch pressed to preserve freshness and fruit purity. Primary fermentation took place in a combination of stainless steel tanks and oak barrels, allowing the winemakers to balance vibrant fruit with subtle texture. Malolactic fermentation was deliberately avoided to retain the wine's natural acidity. Following secondary fermentation in bottle using the traditional Cap Classique method, the wine matured on its lees for four years, developing fine texture, brioche character, and additional complexity before release.

About the Winery
Anthonij Rupert Wyne was founded on the farm L’Ormarins in Franschhoek. Originally owned by the late Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2001, the farm was taken over by his brother Johann Rupert in 2003. It was Johann Rupert who constructed a state-of-the-art winemaking facility on the estate, and the beginnings of what was to become a sprawling enterprise with a focus on terroir specific wines.
